ADS-B "In's" and "Out's"

Airspace Requirements

Columbia Avionics & Aircraft Services, Inc. has an ADS-B solution to meet the mandate in the Cessna Citation 500 & 600 series aircraft. Citation ADS-B Solutions can be installed in the Citation Bravo, Encore & Ultra series aircraft. Previous certifications on these systems includes the Cessna Citation Models 500, 501, 550, 551, S550, 560 and 650. With a Garmin GTN Series radio, aircraft have the ability to perform WAAS LPV approaches.

Our STC includes various combinations of the GTN Touch Screen radios, the Garmin GTX-33ES Mode-S Transponders, Garmin GDL-69/A Weather Data Link and a Marker Beacon Receiver.

ADS-B, or Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast, is part of the NextGen air traffic modernization, and the FAA has mandated that aircraft operating in airspace that now requires a Mode C transponder must be equipped with ADS-B Out by Jan. 1, 2020 (PDF link - new window).

With ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast), you'll be required to broadcast your position information to ADS-B ground stations and other aircraft. This is called ADS-B "Out." The ground stations are also broadcasting valuable information you can use if your aircraft is equipped to receive it using ADS-B "In" technology.

With ADS-B, each aircraft needs an approved ADS-B position source to calculate its precise position using highly accurate WAAS/SBAS GPS data. This position is then broadcast to ATC and other ADS-B "In" equipped aircraft in their vicinity.

The ADS-B Out rule does not affect current transponder requirements, meaning aircraft must continue to carry their transponders even after equipping for ADS-B Out.

ADS-B Out transmits information about altitude, airspeed, and location derived through GPS from an equipped aircraft to ground stations and to other equipped aircraft in the vicinity. Air traffic controllers use the information to "see" participating aircraft in real time with the goal of improving traffic management.

With minimal down time Columbia Avionics & Aircraft Services INC. can equip your aircraft to meet the upcoming mandate.
